------- Cyberia ----- 11-17-94 ----------------------------------------------- Welcome to Cyberia! Cyberia requires a minimum of a 386/16 with 4 MB of RAM, VGA, about 3 MB of available Hard Disk Space, and a Single Speed CD ROM Drive. A Joystick is highly recommended! To enjoy the ultimate Cyberia experience, we recommend a 486 VESA Local Bus machine, Double Speed CD ROM, 8 MB of RAM, and a 16 bit Sound Card. To install Cyberia on your hard drive, just switch to your CD ROM Drive and type SETUP. EX. D: SETUP The Setup program will prompt you for the Destination Directory (C:\CYBERIA is the default) and then copy the required program files from CD to your hardisk. When the Setup program is finished, type CYBERIA to start the game. Enjoy! Cyberia Command Keys: --------------------- F - Switches between Joystick and Mouse Modes. L - Opens the Load Game Menu. P - Toggles Pause On/Off. Arrows - Moves ZAK during walking scenes. Moves tarketing cursor During Flight Scenes, Moves between selections on Menus and Visor Puzzles. ESC - Opens the Main Menu or Cancels current operation, depending on the situation. F1 - Performs Infra-Red Scan (during Visor Puzzles) F2 - Performs MRI Scan (during Visor Puzzles) F3 - Scans for Bio-Mass (during Visor Puzzles) F10 - Stops Visor View (during puzzle sequences) F11 Gamma Correction. 6 levels of brightness are available. Memory Problems: ---------------- To play Cyberia, your computer must have a minimum of 4MB of RAM. Cyberia has low conventional memory requirements, and should play under most machine configurations. If you receive a message stating "Not Enough Memory" when trying to load Cyberia, check your CONFIG.SYS file for the presence of any external memory managers. Examples of memory managers are EMM386, QEMM, 386MAX. A typical command line will look something like this: Example: "DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE..." If such a memory manager is present, disable the line by adding "REM" to the beginning of the line containing the memory manager: Example: REM DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE..." in the CONFIG.SYS, save the file, reboot your computer, and try loading CYBERIA again. Always back up your CONFIG.SYS before making any modifications to it. If you still experience problems, use a Boot Disk when starting your computer. Details on making a Boot Disk are given on the Troubleshooting card included with Cyberia. Sound Problems: --------------- CYBERIA is designed for use with Sound Blaster and 100% compatible Sound Cards, and does not require a special setup program for sound card configuration. If you experience any sound problems while playing Cyberia, first check your sound card settings, located in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The statement will read something similar to this: SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1. - A220 => Base i/o address. - I5 => Interrupt. - D1 => DMA channel. Cyberia will work with most configurations, however the interrupt must be less than 10, and the DMA channel must be 1. If your settings exceed these values, run the configuration software that came with your Sound Card, and choose new values within the allowed range. Save the new settings, check that the SET BLASTER line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file has been updated to reflect the new values; then reboot your computer and run Cyberia again. Sound Problems can arise for a variety of reasons, most commonly from incorrect settings in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, or conflicts between your Sound Card and another piece of hardware installed in your computer, such as a Modem, i/o card, or even your Mouse. SPEED PROBLEMS: --------------- The speed at which Cyberia plays is in large part dependant on the speed of the Video Card, and the CD ROM drive installed in your computer. If Cyberia plays too slow on your machine, check the lines in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files which start your CD ROM drive, for the presence of an M: option. This option sets the number of buffers and should be set to at least 40 for optimal reading performance . (ex. M:40). Check the documentation that came with your CD ROM for further details. If Cyberia still plays too slow, you can use the -s option when starting the game to speed up gameplay on slower machines, or machines with slow video cards. To use this option, simply type "CYBERIA -s" when loading the game. This will drop the refresh of every other frame in the flying sequences. Playing Cyberia with a Mouse: ------------------------------ When using a Mouse with Cyberia, remember to use the "F" command. This command switches between Flight Stick and Mouse Modes. To use this command, simply type "F" while in any of the flight sequences. A Joystick is Highly Recommended! Mouse Problems: If your Mouse does not function properly while playing Cyberia try using the -M option when starting the game. Example: CYBERIA -M Note that, depending on your system hardware, this switch may fix the problem, make things worse, or crash your computer. Note that the Mouse does not operate in the Gunnery Chair of the Rig. If you do not have a joystick, use the arror keys to move the gun, the space bar to fire. CD ROM Troubleshooting: ----------------------- Triple Speeds CD ROM Drives: Some Triple Speed CD ROM Drives are not compatible with CYBERIA. As of this writing, 11-17-94, we do not have a solution to this problem. Please call our technical support line for the latest information and possible solution to this problem at 714-553-6678 MACHINES WITH ONLY 4 MEGS OF MEMORY: ------------------------------------ If you have a machine with only 4 Megabytes of memory, it may be required that you make a boot disk to run Cyberia. To do this, format a floppy disk in your boot drive (a: drive), by typing FORMAT A: /S (this will make a bootable floppy.) After the format is complete, EDIT CONFIG.SYS on the a: drive (the screen will be blank), and insert the following lines: DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\SB16\DRV\SBCD.SYS /P:220 /D:MSCD001 FILES=40 BUFFERS=40 DOS=HIGH After saving this file, EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT on the a: drive and insert these lines: C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /M:30 PROMPT $P$G After saving this file, wait a few seconds and reboot the system, leaving the floppy disk in the a: drive. You should now be able to run Cyberia from your hard disk without problems. Please refer to the Setup/Troubleshooting card included in the box for more detailed information. Please note that your CD-ROM drivers may be different than our example. This example works with the Creative Labs Soundblaster 16 CD-ROM kit ONLY. Your drivers may differ; please consult your CD-ROM/soundcard documentation. Interplay Demos: ---------------- Located on your Cyberia CD are the demos for Alone in the Dark, Blackthorne, Lost Vikings, Mario Teaches Typing, Out of this World, Star Reach, and Star Trek 25th Aniversary. To Install these demos switch to your CD-ROM drive and use the following commands to install the demos: The following is a list of files to install the demos: inst_ad >> Installs the Alone in the Dark Demo inst_bt >> Installs Blackthorne Demo inst_vik >> Installs the Lost Vikings Demo inst_mar >> Installs Mario Teaches Typing Demo inst_otw >> Installs Out of This World Demo inst_sr >> Installs Star Reach Demo inst_st >> Installs Star Trek Demo INTERPLAY BBS: -------------- Interplay Operates a Multiline Bulletin Board System for Technical Support, Files, News and Information.
